floral apex

thrifted vest, overalls, & boots. asos sunglasses.

photos by Linda Chow

Don't hate the overalls! Just found this little treasure on a thrift trip back home in Florida!
People use to tease and despise these "dungarees" but now people are wearing them everywhere! At least here in the city they are. They're so great to wear on a casual Sunday: Grocery shopping, brunch, lounging, basically any lazy and leisure activity.

PS. If P.Diddy can wear sunglasses at night, so can I. Who does he think he is anyways?
Just kidding, it was for photo purposes only. I would never actually wear my sunglasses at night. So tacky.

designer discovery: Wen Shi

Designer Discovery is a new addition of blog series I will be adding to my usual outfit posts.
As an aspiring fashion stylist, fashion consulting is another aspect of the job that I really want get involved with. To help develop and style a designer's collection and bring it to it's fullest potential is something I really want to partake in. Especially with having a background in fashion design.

I want to spotlight up-and-coming young designers that I find interesting, so you won't be seeing established designer's like Pheobe Philo or Marc Jacobs within this series.

So, I hope you're just as excited about discovering new designer's as I am!

Our first designer to kick off this series is Wen Shi!

First off, is anyone else's eyes green with envy for that jacket with the mongolian sheep fur sleeves? I die! That would be a great addition for my F/W 2012 wardrobe (hint hint).

I ran into Wen Shi's work while doing some research for my job, through her win at the Gen Art "Crest 3D White Design Little White Wardrobe Competition." Congratulations!

Aside from the beautiful jacket, the first thing I noticed was the contrast and balance between the soft and structured designs. For someone new to the game of fashion, I think Wen Shi successfully merged the two styles and was able to produce a beautiful cohesive and modern collection. Some of the pieces alone are quite simple, yet they still make a strong statement. Less is more in this collection's case and I am all for it! It's all in the details.

I love the soft wide-legged pants paired with the structured peplum jacket and the simple-modern draped gown. All a lady needs with that white gown is a statement clutch, necklace, messy-chic bun and she will be talk of the town: underrated elegance. The construction and execution of the clothing is applaudable as well, such as the short cocktail dress. The way the princess seams flow right into the ruffles on the skirt is really beautiful and well done.

For a fairly new designer, any viewer would be able to decipher Wen Shi's design aesthetic. To which  I congratulate Wen Shi. She knows who she is and who her customer is, an aspect of the business that many new young designers struggle with.

I look forward to seeing Wen Shi develop and grow as a designer over the next few seasons!
I will definitely be keeping an eye out for her!

Update 1.0

3.1 Phillip Lim necklace, elizabeth & james blouse.

I'm still alive and yes I'm also still wearing my Phillip Lim Necklace... Other than my usual abusive-overuse and wear of my Phillip Lim necklace, there have been many new and exciting things that have entered my life. I'm sorry for my month absence but in order for me to give my best effort, I had to focus on other aspects of my life. I still do need to focus on the other aspects but this blog is such a fun creative outlet that I can't neglect it. So, bear with me for now!

The most exciting thing that has happened so far is probably getting an internship at, TWELV Magazine. TWELV Magazine is a new fashion, art, music, and charity magazine that just released it's first issue this past June. One of the many things that makes TWELV unique is it's perspective and promotion of charity; 12% of print and digital sales are actually donated to a variety of charities. Which is unheard of from many other fashion magazines. So far I'm having a knowledgable and enjoyable experience at TWELV. In addition to gaining knowledge, I'm making friends and connections that I never thought I would have! As of now I'm really grateful for my experience at TWELV.

Oh yeah, let's not forget I still have my part-time job in retail... I'm sure anyone with any experience working in retail understands how I feel.

Just a little life update, but I'm back!

I kind of feel like a slut-grandma-secretary-badbutt-matador in this look, but I kind of love it.
Finals time! Only one more week of the school semester is left!
I'll be back!

ps. I am so obsessed with my new bag! Such a great investment.

my precious

vintage bag via etsy LaFemme Vintage

My to-go/school bag aka my only bag broke, so as a substitute I was using a heinous canvas tote. It was clashing with every outfit I pulled together, and I was desperate for a new bag. But I wasn't going to purchase and settle for any bag, it had to be perfect because I honestly hate carrying bags so I prefer to keep my bag collection to a minimum. Which is like two bags. . . Then, I found this little beauty on Etsy (my newest online addiction/distraction). I was actually looking for a crocodile briefcase/messenger/satchel bag, so it was just perfect timing! I love the elegant briefcase structure, and with the crocodile embossed leather it gives the bag a special edge and adds a perfect touch of texture to all of my looks. It's my precious!

Check out what other cute little gadgets and trinkets I'm obsessed with on Etsy on my pinterest board! Etsy Obsessed!

ps. Sorry for the blog neglection!
